Welcome to our new ‘Paula’s Diary’ series where we explore the inspiring and creative life of Paula Rooney. We will look at Paula’s travels as she draws design inspiration from every corner of the globe.
Recently Paula travelled to Paris to meet with new suppliers and visit trade shows for next season. With travel comes an abundance of inspiration; who wouldn’t be inspired by the city of love? As always Paula went with a full schedule; her first stop was Maison et Objet where she combed their flamboyant styles and bold colours. It has become an annual visit to Maison for Paula as their program and installations offer a remarkable insight to future trends.
I love being in Paris every season and seeing the changes it brings. I love walking the streets and being inspired by the architecture that surrounds me. It’s a city that allows me to dream, and achieve big.
Flowers in Paris
While in Paris, Paula took the opportunity to meet with friend and fellow international floral designer, Jeff Leathem. Like Paula at Four Seasons Ten Trinity Square, London Jeff is the in-house floral designer for Four Seasons George V, Paris. Jeff has long been a major influencer in the floral design industry so having a grand tour with his team of the luxury hotel suites; penthouse and flower room was an unforgettable experience. Jeff’s team at George V create phenomenal floral installations that are grandiose in scale; from mirror reflections to colour pop walls the Parisian lobby is always full of love. Jeff’s team were a reflection of what a consummate professional and lovely man Jeff is as they treated Paula with exceptional care.
Paula had dinner with two photographer friends CheyAnne and Doug of L’Amour de Paris to discuss an upcoming photograph shot in Paris. Watch this space! For Paula it is always great to talk about what is happening in all mediums of the design industry as it’s a chance to learn and inspire one another.
While in the city of love Paula attended a site visit at The Ritz. The epitome of Parisian chic and elegance, The Ritz’ interior is iconic with timeless touches that allow you to go back in time when Coco Chanel frequented the hotel. It was a highlight of Paula’s time in Paris!
Visiting Paris is about soaking up the Parisian streets and people. Paula makes sure she walks around the city taking notice of the boutique flower shops, stopping to visit them and chatting to the florists while looking at the mechanics of their practise. Paris is for every season so Paula will see you again very soon!
